Les Carrières de Mézy Pouilly-Fumé
Ratings
Les Carrières de Mézy Pouilly-Fumé is rated 91 points from Decanter with the following review, “Tart citrus is to the fore, with white peach flesh and dried chamomile aromatics lifted by stony minerality. The palate is intensely bright, with ample ripeness. It features macerated white peach flesh, poached pear, and nutmeg spice.”
Grape Growing Methods
The Pouilly region was formed several million years ago and has been eroded by the Loire river over time so that the terroir produces a multitude of expressions and aromas. Flint clay, Kimmeridian marl with small oysters and calcareous or caillottes soils therefore play host to the Sauvignon Blanc grape and shape the «blanc fumé de Pouilly» in all its diversity and complexity. The vineyards are managed by quality-conscious producers that share the Domaine’s guiding philosophies. All of these elements contribute to the complex well-balanced blends that are typical of this appellation.
Tasting Notes
This Pouilly-Fumé reveals an intense, complex bouquet with light peach and acacia flower aromas, complemented by an elegant minerality. The intended balance has been achieved with the mineral freshness balancing some softness on entry to the palate. This wine possesses a crisp, lingering finish.
Food Pairings

Les Carrières de Mézy Sancerre Cuvée de la Réserve Rouge
Ratings
Les Carrières de Mézy Sancerre Cuvée de la Réserve Rouge is rated 93 points from Decanter with the following review, “Deliciously complex Pinot Noir from 40-year-old vines, which are sustainably farmed. The vineyards of this cuvée are situated in two different soil profiles. 50% of this wine comes from the ‘Terres Blanches and the other half from a rocky limestone soil known as ‘Cailottes. Gorgeously smoky, with hints of church candles, dried rose petals and dried wild lavender. The palate is sleek, with wild red fruits, fresh savoury herbs, streaks of graphite, and turned earth minerality—a heady Pinot Noir.”
Grape Growing Methods
From 40-year-old vines situated 50% clay-limestone soil locally known as “Terres Blanches” and 50% dry and rocky limestone soil referred to as“Caillottes”. The vines are sustainably grown. Soil work, bud thinning and de-leafing at the beginning of July help to create low yields and excellent maturity. We thus obtain great concentration, good aromas, ripe tannins and an optimal balance between sugar and acidity. We determine the harvest date by analyzing the maturity prior to harvesting.
Tastings Notes
A beautiful deep and intense ruby colour. The nose is expressive, revealing complex aromas of ripe fruits elevated by smoky notes of roasted coffee. After a rather soft attack, the wine opens with beautiful volume, full of finesse and elegance.
Food Pairings
This wine will pair wonderfully with duck breast and mushrooms, roast turkey poult or fried veal sweetbread.
